LIFE AND DEATH DECISIONS IN JEWISH LAW

This 30 minute session takes place in the Wembley Suite and will examine life and death dilemmas in medicine and surgery from the perspective of Jewish law. What does one do when more than one life is in danger but only one can be saved? May one person be killed to save others? The discussion will be of interest to the general public as well as medical professionals.

About Rabbi Akiva Tatz

After practising as a doctor in both South Africa and the US, he moved to Israel where he practised both in hospital and general medicine in Jerusalem. He also engaged in a number of years Talmudic study and later teaching in Jewish thought and medical ethics in Jerusalem.

He is the Founder and Director of the Jerusalem Medical Ethics Forum and has written a number of books on the subject of Jewish Thought and Philosophy including Living Inspired and Worldmask. His work has been translated into Spanish, French and Portuguese.
